Core Mechanics

NPC interactions use a dialogue-tree system. Each NPC has a primary quest that unlocks a key item, plus secondary dialogue lines that only trigger after certain world conditions are met. Missing a primary quest locks you out of the True Ending.

Advantages

Talking to every NPC at least twice unlocks extra dialogue that hints at secrets. Each character has both a primary quest reward (key items for endings) and a secondary reward (lore tidbits) worth backtracking for.

Challenges

Several NPCs share generic dialogue trees and can be confused with each other on a blind run. Some side quests are only visible after a specific scene earlier in the game, so backtracking is often required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Mellow?+
Mellow is the player character — a young boy who has lost all his senses. The True Ending unlocks a final lore scene explaining his backstory.
Do I need to help every NPC?+
Yes, for the True Ending. Skipping even one NPC quest locks you out of the True Ending permanently.
Where is the Garden Keeper?+
The Garden Keeper is in the overgrown Garden clearing, southeast of the workbench. He trades Memory items for Toy items used elsewhere.
Where is the Basement Child?+
In the Basement east cell, locked behind a cabinet that needs the Doll item. She trades the Doll key that opens the School chalk puzzles.

Quick Tips

💡

Aiding every NPC is required for the True Ending. Skipping even one locks you out.

💡

Secondary dialogue lines only appear after specific world conditions — backtrack to characters after major progression milestones.

💡

Old Man Static hints at the True Ending lore in the late game; visit him after every area completion.

💡

Garden Keeper accepts memory items in trade for key Toy items needed by other NPCs.
